Research & Insight:
In researching the period care market, I observed the use of gender-specific color, design, and language in product packaging and advertising, often portraying menstruation as a discreet or taboo topic and reinforcing outdated stereotypes. This highlighted the lack of gender-neutral options - emphasizing the need to change how period products are presented and marketed, in a way that is inclusive of all genders and challenges outdated stigmas.
Solution:
I created Nova, a brand that confronts outdated period norms. The brand identity uses a gender-neutral color palette, a modern wordmark, bold illustrations, and a direct tone. The packaging clearly shows what the product is without attaching a specific persona. The product photography focuses on the product itself, taking a faceless approach. In using inclusive design choices Nova's branding breaks away from traditional period product marketing.
